81 days without a shooting in the S.O.S. catchment area

S.O.S. was deeply saddened by the number of shootings in our community over the Labor Day weekend. These shootings were a great tragedy for Crown Heights that resulted in 2 people dead and 13 people injured in the 77th precinct over the week of the Labor Day Parade. These shootings were out of a total of at least 13 people dead and 54 people injured from gun violence across the entire city of New York . The tragedy of these shootings is profound and our heartfelt condolences go out to all those affected by the violence.

However, for a small area within the 77th precinct in North Crown Heights between Atlantic Ave. and Eastern Parkway, and Kingston Ave and Utica Ave., there were no shootings. S.O.S. feels fortunate that through the efforts of community members, the S.O.S. team, and everyone involved in the anti-violence movement, there has not been a shooting in the S.O.S. catchment area in 81 days; almost 3 months.

Together, we can make a difference and reduce the numbers of shootings and killings in our communities.

Please join us for our next volunteer training, Wednesday, October 12th, 2011 at 5:30pm to get involved with S.O.S. Call 718-773-6886 to register for the training.
